Ingredients
Instructions
-
Core your apple and chop it into chunks. Peel the ginger and turmeric and chop into smaller pieces.
I recommend wearing gloves while peeling the turmeric if you do not want to end up with yellow hands. Also consider that it might stain a wooden cutting board.
-
Add all ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth
-
Strain mixture through a sieve into a jar or bottle. I like to use a spoon to extract as much liquid as I can.
I keep the flesh and add it to my dog stews, smoothies and banana breads or muffins
Serving and Storage
-
The shots will keep 2 - 5 days in the fridge. Shake well before serving as the sediment will settle on the bottom.
Note that ginger shots can be pretty intense. If you do not enjoy them as a shot in the morning, dilute them with water or juice, add them to your smoothies. I like the to pour my shot into a mug and fill that with boiled water. I drink it before my yoga
-
The active ingredients in ginger (gingerol) and turmeric (curcumin) tend to breakdown and lose potency over time. Consider freezing shots in an ice cube tray to extend the storage period beyond a week.
